3 SIZES: (L x W x H) Frank Lloyd Wright Frank Lloyd Wright was born in Richland Center, Wisconsin on June 8, 1867. Early in his career, he worked for a firm in Chicago under Louis Sullivan which Wright later credited as his primary influence on his career. Adapting Sullivan's maxim, "form follows function," believing that American's architecture should be styled on American functionality rather than European traditions. Wright later developed his own theory "form and function are one."
Throughout his career, Wright's influence continued to grow in popularity in the United States & Europe. Eventually his innovative building-style became popular overseas. In 1915, Wright was commissioned to design the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo. It was during this time that Wright began to develop and refine his architectural and sociological philosophies. Due to his dislike of the urban environment, Wright's designs continued to establish new trends; the basis of American architecture. Some great examples of Wright's work include the Larkin Administration Building in Buffalo, New York (1903), and the Guggenheim Museum in New York City (1943), which resembles the structure of a shell or a snail. |
